I woke up to a note by the coffee pot the other morning.
It detailed a variety of different points, two of which were the following:
Pizza was good. I didn’t know how to reheat it, so I just ate it cold.
Can you make a big bowl of chocolate pudding? I ate one of the Jello cups in 3 bites and feel like a glutton and that I stole from J.
So, I set off to make some chocolate pudding.
Homemade Chocolate Pudding
First, a general note. I’m not sure who is writing these recipes for pudding, and why they evidently consider a portion to be 1/4 cup. Insane. I made my first batch and it filled up like 2 glasses. Then I made another batch two days later and doubled it- it was a much more appropriate amount, if you ask me.
I found this recipe straight from Hershey’s cocoa. And I didn’t feel like messing with it, because 1. I figure Hershey’s probably has a lock on a really good chocolate pudding recipe and 2. It appeared to be as easy as can be.
Just make sure that if you make this on the stove, you are careful to stir and keep your heat low enough to prevent your sugar from burning {Guess what I didn’t do…}
How to Make Chocolate Pudding
There are two ways you can make this pudding: either on the stovetop or in the microwave. If you choose to go the stovetop route, start by combining your dry ingredients (sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch and salt) in a saucepan.
Then gradually add in the milk while whisking constantly, and place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring everything to a boil and allow to boil for one minute while still stirring. After one minute, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla.
While still hot, pour the mixture into individual serving dishes and then cover the surface of the pudding with plastic wrap. this helps to prevent skin from forming on the surface.
For the microwave: stir together the dry ingredients in a microwave safe bowl. Gradually whisk in the milk and then microwave for 7-10 minutes until mixture comes to a boil. Stop the microwave to stir the mixture every 2 minutes. Stir in butter and vanilla once the time is completed, then pour into serving dishes and follow the recipe like above.
