These homemade Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are super soft and delicious! All you need is a cold glass of milk!
Jonathan has a new Little People app on the iPad that he really likes. I really like it because its a cooking app, and completely adorable. You follow a “recipe” to get what you need from the grocery store, put the ingredients in a bowl, mix them up, pour them into the appropriate pans, then decorate if necessary
The only downside of this that I have found so far is that nearly every day Jonathan asks me to make
- pancakes
- cookies
- cupcakes
So since coming up with a good oatmeal chocolate chunk recipe has been on my to-do list for awhile, we made these together the other day. My sous chef kept stealing batter. So unprofessional.

Tools needed to make these Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies from scratch:
- A [easyazon_link identifier=”B00005UP2P” locale=”US” tag=”gogogogo03-20″]stand mixer[/easyazon_link] makes creaming the butter and sugar sooo much easier!
- And if you don’t have a stand mixer, a [easyazon_link identifier=”B00C0QJY40″ locale=”US” tag=”gogogogo03-20″]hand mixer[/easyazon_link] is a great alternative.
- To make the cookies all a uniform size, I like to use a [easyazon_link identifier=”B06XNQNN99″ locale=”US” tag=”gogogogo03-20″]cookie scoop[/easyazon_link].
- A nice [easyazon_link identifier=”B0049C2S32″ locale=”US” tag=”gogogogo03-20″]cookie sheet[/easyazon_link] may seem obvious, but so important!
- Transferring cookies to a [easyazon_link identifier=”B078Y316M5″ locale=”US” tag=”gogogogo03-20″]cooling rack[/easyazon_link] to finish cooling is really helpful.

I love a good oatmeal cookie! You do not need to chill the dough, or do the cookies not spread too much on the pan?
Jacqueline says
Nope, no chilling required! They only spread as much as you see in the pictures.

These are very good! Soft and chewy. Really a good oatmeal cookie. I baked them on parchment paper for 12 minutes at 350 degrees. They won’t look done when you take them out, but let them sit on the cookie sheet for a while before transferring to a wire rack. Excellent!!
Valerie Gerstenslager says
Very good cookies. Crunchy and soft. Didn’t know whether to use old-fashioned oatmeal or regular oatmeal so I used old-fashioned
